7 places I would love to photograph a wedding

There are places that instantly make me imagine a wedding.

A long table underneath olive trees, dinner as the sun disappears behind the mountains, an intimate celebration in the middle of Paris or a winter wedding surrounded by snow.

As a wedding photographer, I am constantly inspired by beautiful architecture, fashion, natural light and the atmosphere of a place. And while I haven’t photographed weddings in all of these destinations yet, there are a few places in Europe that have been on my photography wishlist for quite some time. Some I have discovered while travelling, others I simply keep coming back to for their unique beauty and character.

So, if you are dreaming of a destination wedding in Europe, here are seven places I would absolutely love to photograph.

01 — Mallorca, Spain

Mediterranean life, from Palma to the mountains

What I love about Mallorca is the contrast. You can spend the morning wandering through the streets of Palma and, not much later, find yourself surrounded by mountains, olive trees and beautiful fincas that feel completely secluded.

Palma itself has always reminded me of a little Barcelona – beautiful architecture, narrow streets, great restaurants and that lively Mediterranean atmosphere, just on a much more intimate scale. And then there is the completely different side of the island: quiet villages, hidden coves and the dramatic landscape of the Tramuntana mountains.

I have experienced a wedding here from a very different perspective, too – as a guest at a friend’s celebration in a beautiful modern finca tucked away in the mountains. It was one of those weddings where the celebration didn’t simply end after the wedding day. The next day, we all met again for a catamaran trip – sunshine, the Mediterranean and everyone spending one more relaxed day together.

That is exactly what I love about destination weddings: they turn a wedding into a shared experience. Instead of everyone arriving for just one evening, you get to spend real time together – celebrating, exploring and creating memories beyond the wedding day itself.

Mallorca makes that incredibly easy. You have the energy of Palma, secluded fincas in the mountains, beautiful beaches and the Mediterranean all within reach. And with only a short flight from Munich, it feels wonderfully accessible while still giving you that unmistakable feeling of being away.

Next time, I would love to experience it from behind the camera.

02 — The Dolomites, ItalY

A place that has been part of my life for as long as I can remember

The Dolomites are probably the most personal place on this list. I have been coming here since I was a little girl – skiing in winter, hiking in summer – and it is still a place I return to every single year.

There is something about these mountains that never seems to lose its magic for me. No matter how often I come back, I still find myself stopping to take in the view. The dramatic peaks, the changing light, the quiet of the mountains and that feeling of being completely surrounded by nature make this part of Italy incredibly special to me.

Over the years, the Dolomites have become a place filled with memories – and at the same time, there is always something new to discover. A different trail, a beautiful mountain hut, a new view or simply another evening watching the last light disappear behind the peaks.

That is why I would absolutely love to photograph a wedding here one day.

I imagine a celebration that brings together everything I love about this region: incredible mountain views, beautiful design, amazing food and that unmistakable mix of Italian warmth and Alpine atmosphere. An intimate ceremony overlooking the mountains, aperitivo outside and dinner as the peaks slowly turn golden in the evening light.

To photograph a wedding in a place that has been part of my own story since childhood would make this one particularly special.

03 — Provence, France

From Marseille to the Provençal countryside

Of all the places I have travelled to in France, Provence is probably the one I have returned to the most – and one I know and love particularly well.

What I love about this part of France is how many different worlds seem to exist within just one region. There are the turquoise waters and dramatic calanques around Cassis, the colourful energy and beautiful chaos of Marseille – and then, not far away, the complete calm of the countryside.

I love driving through the landscape, discovering the little villages further inland, stopping at local markets and spending long summer evenings outside. There is a certain ease to life here that makes me want to return again and again.

And that is exactly what makes Provence such a beautiful place for a wedding in my eyes. I can imagine a celebration at an old Provençal estate or château, surrounded by nature, with an outdoor ceremony followed by a long dinner under the trees as the evening slowly gets warmer and softer.

For me, photographing a wedding here would feel particularly special. Not because Provence is simply a beautiful destination, but because it is a place I already have so many memories connected to – and still never seem to get enough of.

04 — Paris, France

A city I could return to again and again

Paris is different from all the other places on this list for me. I’ve been there seven times already, and somehow I never get tired of this city.

I love its architecture, the little cafés, the beautiful façades, the fashion, the food – but also simply wandering through the streets without a plan. By now, Paris feels wonderfully familiar to me. I know many of its neighbourhoods, have my favourite corners and places I return to, and yet there is always something new to discover.

Maybe that is exactly why I would love to photograph a wedding there one day.

I can imagine an intimate morning at a beautiful Parisian hotel, portraits in the streets, champagne somewhere along the way and an elegant dinner with your closest people in the evening. Not a wedding that feels like a sightseeing tour, but one that becomes part of the city for a day.

And photographically, Paris has everything I love: beautiful architecture, fashion, movement and those little everyday moments happening in between.

To photograph a wedding in a city I already love so much would be incredibly special.

05 — Puglia, Italy

Whitewashed walls, olive trees & Italian summer

There is something about Puglia that immediately makes me think of long summer evenings, incredible Italian food and celebrations that last for more than just one day.

I love the idea of welcoming everyone with a relaxed pizza party the evening before the wedding – long tables, fresh pizza straight from the oven, local wine and all your favourite people finally together in one place. No big programme, just good food, conversations and that wonderful anticipation of what is still to come.

And then there is the landscape itself: whitewashed masserias, ancient olive trees and the little trulli that are so unmistakably Puglian. I love this mix of simplicity, history and southern Italian charm – it feels completely different from anywhere else in Italy.

For the wedding day, I imagine getting ready in a beautiful masseria, a ceremony surrounded by olive trees, aperitivo in the warm evening light and a long Italian dinner outside. Beautiful food, beautiful surroundings and nowhere else anyone needs to be.

Photographically, it is exactly this simplicity that inspires me: the white stone, neutral colours, unique architecture and strong Mediterranean light create a setting that feels both elegant and wonderfully relaxed.

Perhaps that is what I love most about the idea of a wedding in Puglia: it wouldn’t just be one beautiful day, but an entire weekend of celebrating, eating, laughing and spending time together.

06 — Megève, French Alps

A winter wedding straight out of a storybook

I first fell in love with Megève on a ski trip – and honestly, in winter the entire village feels like something out of a Christmas storybook.

Snow-covered wooden chalets, little streets glowing with warm lights, horse-drawn carriages and the mountains surrounding it all – there is something incredibly magical about this place. I remember walking through the village and thinking how beautiful it would be to photograph a winter wedding here one day.

And then there are the hotels and chalets. Megève has this wonderful way of combining traditional Alpine charm with beautiful design and understated luxury. Cozy interiors, fireplaces, candlelight and incredible mountain views make it feel intimate and elegant at the same time.

I can imagine an entire wedding weekend here: everyone arriving at their chalet, an intimate welcome evening by the fire, skiing together the next morning and then getting ready for a beautiful winter celebration. Portraits in the snow, champagne outside, an elegant dinner surrounded by candlelight – and perhaps a little après-ski somewhere along the way.

What I love most is how different it feels from a classic summer destination wedding. Megève has its very own kind of romance – warm, intimate and a little magical.

Having already experienced this place in winter and fallen completely in love with it, photographing a wedding here would be something very special to me.

07 — Lake Garda, Italy

A place I keep coming back to

Lake Garda has been part of so many trips over the years that it already feels wonderfully familiar to me. I have returned many times, especially to Salò and Lazise, and I still love coming back.

There is something about life around the lake that immediately puts me in holiday mode – the little towns along the water, Italian food, warm evenings and that beautiful mix of mountains and Mediterranean atmosphere.

And unlike some of the other places on this list, I have already experienced a wedding here. I had the pleasure of accompanying wedding photographer Marion Schranner for a destination wedding near Bardolino – and it brought together so many of the things I love about destination weddings.

The celebrations started with a relaxed pizza night, giving everyone time to arrive, reconnect and enjoy that wonderful anticipation of the days ahead. One of my favourite parts was a boat trip across Lake Garda with all the guests – such a beautiful way to experience the lake together and turn the wedding into much more than just one day.

That is exactly what I love about the idea of a destination wedding at Lake Garda. It can become an entire weekend together. Pizza and Aperol the night before, a beautiful celebration overlooking the lake, a boat filled with your favourite people and plenty of time to simply enjoy being in Italy.

Having returned to this part of Italy so many times – both personally and for a wedding – I would absolutely love to photograph another celebration here.

MAYBE ONE OF THESE PLACES WILL BE PART OF YOUR STORY?

These are places I know, love or dream of experiencing through my camera one day. But in the end, a destination wedding isn’t really about the destination itself – it’s about bringing your favourite people together somewhere that feels special to you.

So whether you are planning a wedding in the mountains, by the sea, in the middle of Paris or somewhere I haven’t even thought of yet, I would love to hear what you are dreaming of.

I photograph weddings throughout Europe in English, German and French and would be more than happy to pack my camera and join you wherever your plans take you.
